Entrusting Us With Their Dreams

When I first met Eleanor, she was 9 years old and a budding plants woman. After a brief consultation with her mother, it was explained that it would up to Eleanor and I to design the garden as she had done a lot of research, had plenty of grand ideas and was truly passionate about this undertaking. Eleanor and her two younger sisters had all colored drawings of their dream garden for me. They listed their favorite flowers: "tomeatose", "climeing roses" and "Srubs". Eleanor lovingly handed me their creations and entrusted me to make her wishes come true.

That was 4 years ago and Eleanor still sorts and stores the extra plant labels we collect for her form their installed plantings. We invite these children to join us in the garden to educate them on management, harvesting and BMP’s of sustainable sites. We organize planting opportunities to keep kids connected to the earth. Eleanor and her sisters cut flowers and arrange them for their parents’ dinner parties, plus harvest the herbs and vegetables to place on their table.
